Access to the Library Catalog
Our users can access the bibliographic records of all publications registered in the library automation system through the "Catalog Search" section on our website, whether from within or outside the university.
Searching/Browsing Through the Catalog
With the library software in use, users can access the resources they are looking for by entering the author's name and title of the work. In cases where the author's name or the title is unknown, a subject heading search can be performed to directly access resources related to the research topic.
Call Number (Classification Number/Subject Number)
The call number obtained after the search is a key element that shows exactly on which shelf and in what order the resource is located. This makes it easier to locate the material in the library.
Example:
The call number for Peyami Safa’s work titled “Biz İnsanlar” is:
PL248 .S24 B29 2008
Explanation of the Call Number:
P → This is the classification letter (classmark) indicating that the general subject of the book falls under the field of "Language and Literature".
L → This letter represents a subclass within the general "Language and Literature" category indicated by "P." The subclass mark "PL" signifies that the book is related to the languages and literatures of "East Asia", "the Indian subcontinent, Africa, Oceania", or "Turkish Language and Literature".
248 → This number distinguishes the book from all other works under the "PL" category. The code 248 is specifically used for "Turkish Novels".
.S24 →The letter “S” is the first letter of the author’s surname (Safa), and 24 is a number assigned according to Cutter’s classification system.
B 59 → The letter “B” represents the first letter of the book title, and 59 is the title's Cutter number.
2008→ Year of publication.
